The story of the last Seal Child’s journey home. After their mother’s disappearance, Ben and Saoirse are sent to live with Granny in the city. When they resolve to return to their home by the sea, their journey becomes a race against time as they are drawn into a world Ben knows only from his mother’s folktales. But this is no bedtime story; these fairy folk have been in our world far too long. It soon becomes clear to Ben that Saoirse is the key to their survival.

Music for trailer is “Dees Tune” by kind permission of Kila

I missed Secret of Kells in the theatres due to poor publicity. I’d prefer not to miss Song of the Sea for the same reason.

Is there a list of venues in the US for its showing, so that we’ll know when to go where?

  2. Heather Gregg says:

Our family loves the Secret of Kells, and I keep looking to find info. about a general U.S. release date for the Song of the Sea. It looks like it’s in LA and NYC only for now? Interested in seeing it in Chicago! Maybe in the spring? The trailer looks great. Best of luck!

  6. Hi,
I’m the coordinator of a small children’s festival with a big city feel in Peterborough ON Canada. I’m wondering if you have a Canadian distributor or whether you are arranging the screenings yourself.
Our festival takes place in January but we try to have a few one off screenings throughout the year as well. Unless REELKids brings films like “Song of the Sea” I’m afraid the children in our city will not see them. We do not have an independent cinema therefore it’s up to REELkids to bring these great films.

This film is so marvellous I can’t find the right words to describe it…
This is real animation, so well designed for children, and with a beautiful story + visual art! May I add that this film is the only one that reached the level (and even surpassed!) what Walt Disney ever did.
Thank you so much to Tomm Moore for creating this jewel, a perfect film!
    Thank you!

  11. […] Song of the Sea is a 2014 Irish animated film directed by Academy Award Filmmaker Tomm Moore.  The film was produced by Paul Young and Claus Toksvig Kjar and written by Will Collins. The story has animation similarities from Cartoon Saloons previous work, the critically acclaimed, The Secret of Kells. The movie was released at TIFF on September 6,2014 and distributed by StudioCanal of the UK and GKIDS from the US. The Song of the Sea has had many positive reviews from, gorgeous artwork, storytelling from folk takes and magic and imagery. The movie currently hold a high 8.1 rating out of 10 from ImDb and is expected to be a contender in the list to choose for best animation at the Academy Awards.  The storyline is a character by the name of Saoirse  a child who is the last of the Selkies. The Selkies are a group of  women in Irish and Scottish legends who transform from seals into people. The story tells Saoirise’s journey from escaping from her grandmother and setting off to free fairy creatures trapped in a world of uncertainty. Being a fan of the movie, The Secret of Kells I’m very interested in seeing this movie and hope that to those who enjoy folktales and animation, will not pass up the opportunity to see an extraordinary film with high expectations and glamour.
